My encouragement today is to not focus on the "fear of failure" but rather the possibilities.  It is easy to go down the path of looking at everything negative that could happen - because bad things can happen; however, the more we focus on all the negative - the more chance we may never see or achieve the all the good and blessings in life. 

The quote below is from this book that I read recently and really enjoyed - and highly recommend if you need some encouragement to move forward in life.

"Simply put, our brains are wired to give more importance to negative events than positive ones. So “bad” events influence our decision-making more than positive ones. That means no matter how much we want to succeed, avoiding “bad” events can easily become our primary goal."

It's only Tuesday - and I am ready for the weekend already!  Anyone else with me?

I was so excited to get my clothing samples back yesterday. But when I opened up the package, I was so bummed to find problems. The instructions that I thought were clearly indicated were not done.  I feel like this is an up hill battle - one that I have really begun to wonder why I am doing this.  I know we learn through everything - and I have learned a lot, but I am so ready to have something to sell.  I am becoming discouraged - and wondering if this will ever happen.

To find some encouragement, I pulled this from a favorite author and speaker of mine...

Chic + Versatile Workwear Outfit + My Shopping Trends

This monochromatic red outfit is still one of my favorites.  I love the idea of wearing the same color for the entire look.  This is definitely a chic and versatile workwear outfit.  Each of the pieces can be worn together for this look, or broken apart and worn as separates with other items in your closet.  The red sweater could be worn with jeans and leopard print shoes.  And, the red pants could be paired with a denim shirt and leopard shoes.

1. My three favorite shops

My top shops would probably be Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack, and tied for third - Old Navy, J. Crew and H&M, and Shopbop.  I know that is more than three - but Nordstrom is where I do the majority of my shopping.

2. Online or in store

I shop mostly online.  It is funny how times change.  Growing up - going to the mall was a weekly event for me.  My mom and I were always going to the mall.  Now, I do not remember the last time I went to the mall. 

3. Favorite thing to shop for

This would be a tie - shoes/boots, jackets and sweaters.

4. Favorite thing you ever bought

I have a lot of favorites - and they are mostly my investment pieces - like my hiking boots and over the knee boots.  I also love my pink leather jacket I got at J. Crew.

5. Shop alone or with someone/group

I love shopping with my mom - she is probably my favorite person to shop with, and my husband, but we mostly shop for him when shopping.  Other than that, I really prefer to shop alone; however, it is fun to shop with my friends - if it is social event. If I am really focused on buying/needing to find something - I prefer to tackle shopping alone.

6. Thrift store shopping

Thrift stores overwhelm me. For some reason, the lack of multiple pieces of the same item - is too much for my brain - and I get overwhelmed!  

7. Style or fashion icon

Funny how times change, years ago my fashion icon was Jennifer Aniston and Olivia Palermo.  Now, I have really started to follow fashion bloggers - and they have become my style icons - like Rachel Parcell (Pink Peonies), Lauren Kay Sims, Sasha Simon (LolaRio Style), and Kathleen Post (Lemon Blond)- to name a few.

How To Style Everyday Essential Grey Jeans

What are your everyday essential wardrobe pieces - for me one essential item in my closet would be my grey jeans (the other being probably my black jeans).  I have found that grey jeans can be worn with so many things. I can actually find more ways to style my grey jeans sometimes than my regular blue jeans.  I love the idea of creating a monochromatic outfit with grey jeans and a grey sweater - and just a little pop of pattern in the snake print boots.  I mentioned the other day that one of my favorite heels are my snake print ones because they are the perfect addition to a work outfit.  And, the same is true for snake boots.  They compliment a casual outfit so well - and create both a trendy and chic look!

You may have noticed that I love to style grey jeans.  I have put together grey jeans outfits here (one of my favorites from last year), here (with a pop of red) and here (with a spring coral color) recently.  My good friend, Gina, recently commented that she struggles on deciding what shoes to wear with grey jeans.  I have found that most neutrals (black or cognac) and snake print look great with grey jeans.  I have even been tempted to try white heels or boots with grey jeans.

If you are looking for some new jeans for spring - I would highly recommend a pair of grey jeans.  I think you will find you can style them many different ways.

I have to say that black jeans are my staple jeans.  I wear my favorite pair of black jeans weekly - and most weeks I wear them a couple of times.  I also typically pair my black jeans with a white sweater or tee - just like the look above.

Anyone else have a "go to" look they wear over and over?

Right now,  I am trying to find a few more winter/spring sweaters to get me through the last few months of "winter" since it will not be warm until probably June.  I am getting so bored with my sweater options lately.  I have worn my favorite sweater so many times - I do not want to wear it anymore.

I bought a few sweaters lately - this striped one, this lilac one, this pink one - but they were all too big. I might re-order smaller sizes because I am still hoping to find some new favorites - for a great price.

Finding both trendy and affordable workwear options can be difficult at times.  I have found if I "invest" in a few staple pieces - it makes life a lot easier when getting ready for work.   Plus, I really believe what we wear - gives us a boost in confidence.

Some staples I have bought for work in the past are a satin blouse, like the one above, which happens to be 40% off, and some good fitting - classic, yet trendy pants.  I'll admit it can be difficult to find pants for work.  I have found most of my work pants at Ann Taylor and LOFT.  And, when buying pants, my recommendation right now is to go with the trend of the "cropped" ankle ones.  The fit o the pant and where the pant leg ends on this pair - is perfect.  

Lastly, add some "statement making" shoes to the outfit. I am so happy that snake prints are making a comeback.  I truly love my leopard pumps, but I love snake print just as much (maybe more) - and they can be styled so many different ways for work.   (And, if you want people to compliment you on your look - and your shoes - these will definitely get attention.)

I hope you have had a wonderful week.  It has been a busy week for me, and I am very happy that it is Friday.  I am looking forward to relaxing this weekend, and catching up with Project Runway All Stars, and continuing my re-watching of Downton Abbey.

This week I tackled some big projects on my "to do" list, like erasing my entire computer, and re-installing the old OS in order to be able to install the new OS, and all the applications.  Other than a flashing ??? (question mark) after I erased the hard drive - that was my only problem - which I was able to solve. I have installed most of my applications, I believe, and now, I am just finishing up my Lightroom and Photoshop presets, and some additional font installs.   This process was long overdue - but I am so happy to have accomplished it!

Blush Pink Sweater + White Skinny Jeans Outfit

The blush pink sweater and white skinny jean outfit today was inspired by my post on Friday.  Since our style prompt today on The Blended Blog is today is to re-create a look from someone, and I thought I would use this outfit from one of the first bloggers I followed, Pink Peonies.  Her personal style has two sides - one more edgy and the other more feminine.  Personally, I prefer the edgier-side.  For her more feminine side, she has launched her own design business and has created some beautiful pieces, like this lace blouse or this lace skirt that are both on sale for 70% off.

As far as this look, it is a perfect transitional outfit from winter to spring.  The lightness of the white jeans with the blush and the beige, and that floral scarf (that is only $10) brings it all together.  And, if you are looking for a lighter-weight sweater to go with this look, I found this one that is on sale for $24.

Can you believe Valentine's Day is next week?  Does anyone else think that time continues to move faster and faster?

Since it is my goal to share as many ways to wear items - I thought this look was a great example of how the same sweater and jeans can be styled two different ways.  Last week, I shared the same grey jeans and sweater with a leopard coat and cognac boots. Did you have a nice long weekend?  I extended my long weekend - and decided not to post yesterday.  Sometimes it is good to just take a break!

Today is an exciting day... our new sofa is being delivered.  Our front room has been without a sofa since July - and currently is housing furniture we are trying to sell.  Anyone else try to sell furniture?  It is not easy to find buyers.  Our furniture is in good shape - and no one wants to buy it.  

In addition to our new sofa, we also needed to get some new tables.  I picked up these side tables - and this cocktail table.  I was so happy to buy them during the buy more, save more sale!  I saved a lot!
