Five Things I Bought During Memorial Day Sales

Hope you had a wonderful and relaxing long weekend.

Yesterday, I went to a Memorial Day service, and it was a meaningful reminder of the ultimate sacrifice the men and women of our country have given for our freedom.  One thing the speaker talked about was WWII pilots and the extremely high casualty rate, and the extreme conditions inside the plane during battle.  He also talked about the mid air crashes - as each of the planes circled to wait for the entire fleet of planes to take off and join the group for their mission.  It was a mini history lesson - but more importantly I learned more about the sacrifices of the men that serve.  

The service reminded me that this weekend is not all about the "start of summer" or the great deals - but something more important to take the time to remember.

This is a "winter white" look for summer.  I love the idea of a "winter white" styled for summer.  Plus, this is a great sweater - that would look cute layered over this lace cami.  I tried on the sweater, and it is a more relaxed fit - so I would definitely recommend keeping with your normal size for a more relaxed fit or sizing down for a more fitted look.  I found the sweater for half price HERE, and marked down considerably HERE.

Styling a Pink Blazer + Leopard Pumps for Summer

Do you guys have a favorite restaurant that you like to go to - that just makes you happy?  For me, it is Five Guys. I love the burgers and fries!  And, the fun pop machine. Did you know that they are one of only a places (I can find) that actually offers flavored carbonated water, like Dasani.

In talking about things that make me happy, this look that I put together with the pink blazer and leopard pumps is a favorite of mine.  Pink and leopard is "go to" color combination.  Styling a classic pink blazer with jeans and leopard pumps - makes the perfect summer outfit.  And, you may have noticed that even pink gingham mixes well with leopard - like I shared on Sunday.

This week was my birthday.  I actually had TWO great parties - I felt pretty special.

For my gifts, it might be the fact that I was a biology major in college (something you might not know about me. I was a pre-med, environmental, and education focus - because I couldn't decide what I wanted to do.  Biochemistry - learning about the molecular level of human body- and Field Natural History - where you go on hikes to ID plants, trees, and birds were two of my favorite classes, so that's probably why I love learning things about nature and getting nature gifts.)  For Christmas last year, my husband got me this bird feeder so I could watch the birds.  And, recently, we had a robin make her nest right outside our kitchen window, which I love because I am going to have a "birds-eye" view of the baby birds when they hatch.  And, because I wanted to learn more about birds - my husband got me these for my birthday - and my mom bought me this.

As promised, this is what I wore to my other day of meetings.  (You can see what I wore the first day here.)  Not included in this picture are my black tights.  (And, if you are looking for a great pair of black tights - I highly recommend these!)

This skirt is amazing.  I love it!  I have a hard time finding skirts that fit well and are flattering - and this skirt is both.  Also, it is exactly the right length - not too short and not too long.  Plus, the slight A-line makes it flattering - and fun.  Also, the skirt is 40% off right now.

What I Wore to Work - Monochromatic Look

This past week I had some important meetings at work.  When I dress-up for work (knowing that I am meeting with a more innovative team), I always try to come-up with something unique that stands-out (but doesn't stand-out too much). 

I wore this monochromatic orange-red look.  (I did get a funny look from one of my co-workers, which made me feel a little self-conscious - thinking that I might look like a hot tamales, but then another co-worker, re-assured me that I looked fun-yet professional, and that she really liked my outfit.) 

I could not believe how well the color of this sweater matched these pants - because they are not from the same store.  I actually ended up wearing the sweater backwards - so that the v-part was in the front, and I layered my favorite utility blouse underneath.  And, added my favorite necklaces - this one and this one.

I dressed it up with my new favorite bracelets that I just picked up at the 40% off sale.
