I hope you had a fun and relaxing weekend. I spent part of my weekend shopping for home decor. I finally decided I needed some help picking out artwork. Minted has this service where you send pictures of you home - and they pick out artwork. It was helpful to get an outside perspective. I am looking at this abstract picture for above the sofa, and this one above our fireplace. And, this picture - which is one of my favorites - for above our white sofa.
Also, today, I thought it would be fun to share five things about me today.
#1: I have an undergraduate degree in Biology. I have always had a fascination with science, so much I asked for a microscope for Christmas one year. I also picked biology because it was a challenging major. I didn't know what I wanted to do with the degree, so I took a mix of classes in environmental science, pre-med, and biochemistry.
#2: For my "day" job, I am a Digital Product Manager. I have done this job for over 20 years. As the title says, I manage digital products. I have worked with a major publishing company for many years - developing educational products. In this last year, as colleges have moved to remote learning - the products we develop have become even more important and in demand.
#3: A few years back, I spent part of my summer in NYC studying fashion design at Parsons. It was one of the best experiences. It was challenging - and so rewarding. I will always treasure the time I spent in NYC. When I was in NYC I rented this AirBnb place in the West Village. And, you can read more about my designs that I created and my experience.
#4: I got my one and only speeding ticket on this road nicknamed - Devil's Backbone - when I was in college. You can see in the picture the speed limit of 35 mph. Well, when I came over the hill at 50 mph - I was met by a cop - and I didn't have much wiggle room to get out of that one.
#5: I was a cheerleader in high school. One of my favorite part of cheering was not the actual cheering part - but dancing. We didn't have a dance team - so when the band played at the football game - we danced. I still love to watch choreographed "hip hop" dances - and this is a favorite. When I hear 'hip hop" songs I still think of different moves that I could choreograph to the music.
I hope you are having a great weekend. I enjoyed watching college football yesterday! The Big 10 started its season - so I got to watch Ohio State beat Nebraska - and Michigan beat Minnesota. And, what an end to the Penn State and Indiana game.
On to fashion - how about that leopard dress, which would look really cute styled with black tights and black boots this fall and winter.
As far as sales, it is really odd to be talking about "Black Friday" deals already - but it seems like all the stores are starting their sales early. Black Friday is supposed to be the day after Thanksgiving when stores moved from "red" (or loss) into the "black" (profit) - so I guess stores are getting a jump on turning a profit this year - and for some, I am sure it has been a tough year.
I have to say the "shacket" trend has definitely become a hot item. It seems like everyone is buying them - and they are selling out everywhere. I found two options - the "save" option which a great price - and a fun purple plaid (plus it is only $40 on sale). And, then there is the classic black and white one.
Another trend that is still going strong are these shearling-lined hiking boots. I found this almost identical "save" optionfor only $60.
In addition to you hiking boots, combat boots have become very popular this fall. These combat boots are one of my favorites. I love the mix between a combat style and ski boot.
One of my favorite interior designers on Instagram, Studio McGee, just launched her new series on Netflix - Dream Home Makeover this past weekend. It is an enjoyable show - and fun to see how rooms and homes are transformed. If you have not watched it yet - I would recommend it.
I learned a new word today - "shacket". It is the combination of a "shirt" and a "jacket" - or what I have been referring to as a "shirt jacket". I bought this "shacket" (or shirt jacket) earlier this year; however, the fit was off a little for me, so I returned it (but I loved the neutral colors). Yesterday, I found this one - it is really a "jacket" but it has the look of a "shacket" and was over 50% off.
So, I am not doing a lot of shopping this fall - because let's be real - where am I going. However, I am still working from home - and on Zoom calls - so some new sweaters (and nice sweatshirts) are always fun to have. And, I have bought some warmer jackets and fun boots - because all my going out has consisted of eating outside. I have to say - last weekend it was pretty chilly out at night - but with heat lamps - it was toasty warm. So, as long as the heat lamps and weather stays somewhat temperate - I hope to continue to eat out.
I took this photo on a walk this past weekend. The colors are so vibrant. I am so thankful to live next to a nature preserve. It is so fun to walk through.
I hope you had a great week. The weeks just keep flying by. I am very busy with work - which is a good thing - but it makes the days just move along so fast.
I am sharing a lot of great deals. That sweater is 70% off and the leopard loafers are 80% off.
